SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level) is a national-level exam conducted by SSC to recruit graduates into Group B and Group C posts in central government ministries, departments, and organizations.
Appointments are done in the following posts through SSC CGL:
Group B (Gazetted & Non-Gazetted – For Higher Rank):
Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in different Ministries (Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Railways etc.),
Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (Central Excise/GST), Inspector (Preventive Officer-Customs), Inspector (Examiner-Customs), Sub Inspector (CBI), Assistant Enforcement Officer (ED),
Assistant Audit Officer (AAO), Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO)
Group C:
Auditor (CAG, CGDA etc.), Accountant / Junior Accountant, Tax Assistant (CBDT / CBIC), Upper Division Clerk (UDC), Senior Secretariat Assistant, Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant etc.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university (any stream).
Special qualifications are required for few posts:
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Must have studied Mathematics at 12th level OR Statistics as graduation subject
Examination Pattern
Tier 1 – Qualifying (Computer Based)

Questions will be objective type Multiple Choice Questions with negative marking
Tier 2 – Main Exam
Paper 1 (compulsory):

Paper 2: (only for Statistics posts)
Final merit is mainly based on Tier 2 exam
Game Plan
- Practice Mathematics questions daily, make a note about how to solve each type (e.g. Profit & Loss, Time & Work), memorize formulas
- Revise General Knowledge consistently
- Take mock test and must analyse own performance in every mock test, attempt at least 2 mock tests per week.
- Solve previous 15 years’ questions, very important as SSC repeats concepts frequently.

Step 3 → Start reading Lucent GK for General Studies part
Step 4 → Solve topic-wise previous year questions
Step 5 → Attempt full mock tests
